With exhibiting the word order of subordinate clauses in Old English (OE) with regard to the positions between AUX and V in association with the optional nominal object movement, We show how these surface word orders have been derived in the minimalist program(including Generative grammar). In this article we try to show how OE surface word orders concerning verb, AUX and object are derived from the minimalist frameworks(from head parameter to labeling identifying approach). First, OE subordinate word orders are derived from the head parameter approach where the base order of Old English is uniformly OV(head final) or VO(head initial). Second, these word orders are derived from the complex head parameter approach in which OV or VO order is derived by dual property(head-initial and head-final) of TP and VP in OE. Third, these word orders are derived from the Linear Correspondence Axiom (LCA) approach in which linearization is required between two syntactic objects by asymmetric c-commanding The last one is the label identifying approach in which AUX or V should be moved in order to determine its label that GP recognizes. In the meantime, it is said that the optional postverbal object appears in OE by the dependance of nominal objects on AUX movement, a kind of Holmberg’s Generalization. (Youngsan University ?
