Shiki Masaoka is a representative writer in the early days in the Japanese modern times when he played an active part in Chinese poetry, a Haiku, a Tanka, a novel, an essay, various areas including the criticism during short life called 35 years 11 months. The cause that Shiki Masaoka greeted the short life is tuberculosis that he had at the age of 21 years old. The decisive cause that Shiki Masaoka worsened illness is to have participated in Sino-Japanese War as a war correspondent at the age of his 28 years old in March, 1895. Therefore, in a ship of the return home, he does a large quantity of hemoptyses. As for Shiki Masaoka, he dies afterward at the end of the life of the fight against illness of six years. It is his letter to make the life of a process and the fight against illness of the attack of such Shiki Masaoka look vivid.
Shiki Masaoka liked writing a letter, and he interchanged with many people in a letter. It was literal interchange not the exchanges of simple safety, and it was literal expression. Particularly, the letter of Shiki Masaoka after one of an attack of tuberculosis is valuable testimony to show how Shiki Masaoka accepted illness. And it is an exhibit showing the literal maturational process as the sick. Therefore, at first this report considers an attack and a progress process of tuberculosis appearing in a letter of Shiki Masaoka. And his medical history is reflected in his literature how and studies it whether you had an influence. Reason by the result; and of this report study the meaning of the letter of a certain Shiki Masaoka for the purpose of being final.
