The paper covers the status analysis and deterioration of a structure regarding corrugated steel culverts that were constructed at the section (minimum depth = 1.5m) with shallow depth under an expressway. The design criteria for corrugated steel were established in the early 2000s and it was found that there were many places that corrugated steel culverts that were constructed at the section with shallow depth before the design criteria were established (in the early stage of introducing corrugated steel) didn’t secure 1.5m which is the minimum depth standard. It was found that deterioration has occurred at some corrugated steel culverts that didn’t secure 1.5m which is the minimum depth standard. Therefore, the status of the corrugated steel culverts that the minimum depth was not secured was analyzed and deterioration that is found in them was investigated. As a result of the investigation, the corrugated steel culverts that didn’t secure minimum depth among 780 corrugated steel culverts or so that were constructed for expressways across the country reached up to 165 ones and it was investigated that deterioration occurred in them was various such as leakage, cracks, corrosion and settlement etc.
