This paper focuses on exploring the status and future directions for physical education curriculum in early childhood education based on a national curriculum. For doing this, this paper has analyzed 8 national curriculum documents on early childhood education in physical education and 7 national or state curriculum documents in other countries. The main findings in this paper are as follows: First, there are no significant changes in national curricula on early childhood education in physical education from the 1st to 2007 revised curriculum document. Second, the ``NUR`` curriculum has 5 content categories and 16 specific content elements. In this document, there are 3 limitations indicated: developmentally inappropriate contents and the omission of basic contents, lack of independence among content categories, and lack of specific examples in physical activity. Finally, four future directions to elevate the quality of ``NUR`` are suggested: (a) the development of academic language in physical education curriculum for early childhood education, (b) a curriculum continuity between early childhood education in physical education and elementary physical education, (c) opening a curriculum course in physical education teacher training programs for early childhood education, and (d) the cultivation of physical education curriculum experts for early childhood education.
