The purpose of this research was to investigate the cardio-pulmonary functions according to the types of exercises and disability in national players with physical disability. A total 35 physically challenged national players were recruited for this research. Exercise types of playersinclude archery, athletics, shooting, swimming, and curling and disability types include spinal cord injury, polio, cerebral palsy, and others. Indicators for cardio-pulmonary functions includemaximal heart rate (HRmax), maximal oxygen uptake (VO2max), minute ventilation volume (VE), and peak time of cardio-pulmonary function and they were analyzed by respiratory gas analyzer (metalyzer II, German) and arm ergometer (ergo400, German). Collected data were analyzed by ANCOVA(analysis of covariance) using SPSS Version 17.0 Program. First, there were significant differences on absolute value of maximal oxygen uptake and peak time of cardio-pulmonary function according to types of exercise; however, there were no differences on relative value of maximal oxygen uptake and ventilation. Second, there were no significant differences between types of disability on cardio-pulmonary functions. In conclusion, improving cardio-pulmonary functions in physically challenged national players is necessary and it is considered to develop various protocols and conduct scientific and systematic studies corresponding to the characteristics of physically challenged athletes by the types of exercises and disability.
