The primary purpose of this dissertation is to discover both the necessity of new comer education and it’s practical and effective methods in local church field. Most churches desire that new comers become active and responsible members in their churches. Some days later, however, they disappear because they left through church’s back door. Thus, new comer education needs in order that new visitors not only register to that church, but also become responsible members.
The Bible obviously asserts the necessity of new comer education. Jesus practiced new comer education for His disciple. Jesus made his disciples, who were like new comer in His early ministry, devoted believers through His training. He gave the Great Commission to His Church to make new comers His devoted disciples. Thus, the Apostles taught new comers in the Early Jerusalem Church. Apostle Paul not only evangelized the gentiles, but also taught the Christian basic truth to them.
Therefore, His churches should practice new comer education in according to the Great Commission and Jesus and Paul’s teaching. I suggest that the new comer class is consisted of the gospel presentation; practical church theology, including vision and pastoral philosophy and history of a church new comer participates; and basic guidance for church life, including how to worship, pray, and offering.
New comer class, in addition, would be effectively practiced about one hour on Sunday morning for four or five weeks because new comer is convenient to participate on Sunday morning. Small group style is better than one to one style because small group style makes new comers a good relationship each other in new comer class, so they could easily settle down in that church.
In conclusion, the church should not only practice both eagerly evangelism for the lost and new comer education for new comer. The church, thus, needs to help new comer to be an active church member.
