The purpose of this article is to understand the world?view of Ham Sok?hon(咸錫憲) in 1960s?1970s’ Korea through his Ssial concept. For this, I examined the religious journey that had stimulated Ham Sok?hon’ imagination in 1960?1970s, the religious planning of Ssial concept, and relevance between logics surrounding the Ssial concept and cosmopolitanism including criticism of nationalism.
In the process, I had some claims as follows. First, Ham Sok?hon’ multi?layered world?view can be described adequately as add?version(加宗) concept(Chapter 2). Second, key words penetrating Ham Sok?hon’ world?view are suffering, meaning of suffering, and Ssial concept that was imagined as the results to connect the world?views of various religions on the basis of Protestantism(Chapter 3). Third, Ham Sok?hon, through the emphasis on the logic of the part?whole and personality, affirmed a nation itself that was expressed as community of Ssial, and criticized the nationalism and individualism, orienting democracy and cosmopolitanism in 1960?1970s(Chapter 4).
Ham Sok?hon imagined the universe category was larger than the cosmopolitan. In this sense, I claimed the world?view of Ham Sok?hon transcended cosmopolitanism, and Ssil concept that Ham Sok?hon emphasized in 1960?1970s goes beyond the cosmopolitan, extending his logic of the part?whole.

이 글의 목적은 함석헌이 1960?1970년대에 민족 주체로 상상한 씨알개념이 민족주의나 세계주의에 관한 인식과 어떤 연관성을 갖고 있는지를 탐색하고, 이를 통해 함석헌의 사유방식을 이해하는 데에 있다. 이를 위해 ① 1960?1970년대까지 함석헌의 상상력을 자극했던 종교 여정, ② 씨알 개념의 종교적 기획과정, 그리고 ③ 씨알 개념을 둘러싼 논리구도와 민족주의·세계주의 인식의 연관성 등 크게 세 가지 내용을 검토했다.
이 과정에서 제2장에서는 기존의 연구와 달리, 함석헌의 종교 여정에 개종 개념이 아니라 가종 개념을 적용할 때 그의 중층적 사유를 적절하게 설명할 수 있다고 주장했다. 제3장에서는 함석헌의 중층적 사유를 관통하는 핵심어를 추출하면서, 함석헌이 1960?1970년대에 애용한 씨알 개념이 개신교를 중심으로 여러 종교적 사유를 연결시켜 상상한 중층적 기획물이라고 주장했다. 제4장에서는 1960?1970년대에 민족 자체를 긍정하면서도 개인주의와 민족주의를 비판하고 민주주의와 세계주의를 지향한 함석헌의 사유에 부분과 전체라는 논리 구도가 있었다고 주장했다. 또한 그 논리의 실행 주체가 씨알 개념 또는 씨알의 공동체이자 전체인 민족 개념으로 표현되었다고 주장했다.
그리고 결론 부분에서는 함석헌의 사유에 부분과 전체라는 논리 구도를 적용했을 때, 기존의 평가와 달리 함석헌이 세계주의를 넘어선다는 견해를 밝혔다. 함석헌이 종교인으로서 세계주의보다 큰 범주를 적용했을 때 논리적으로 세계주의도 전체가 아니라 부분이 될 수밖에 없고, 그에 따라 씨알도 세계주의 실현을 위한 민족 주체에 머물지 않기 때문이다.
