Cancer is one of leading causes of death worldwide. A variety of treatment methods for conquering cancer have been studied. The possibility of cancer treatment using virus is greatly appreciated, and many studies are underway. Oncolytic virus is called a virus that can be used in the treatment of cancer. Oncolytic viruses do not infect normal cells, and have the ability to only selectively infect cancer cells to induce apoptosis. Their cancer selection ability is acquired naturally or obtained through genetic manipulation. These viruses offer new possibilities for the treatment of cancer that was impossible by conventional chemotherapy. In particular, these viruses have a special feature that can be specific in cancer cells, and possible re-targeting to host cells by manipulation to contain desired recombinant DNA. In this regard, oncolytic viruses suggest a great potential as a therapeutic agent for cancer. Studies are currently in progress for the discovery of new mechanism based on the anticancer mechanisms of 35 oncolytic viruses currently known.
