In modern sociolinguistics interaction between the languages and cultures, the languages and politics remain the central question. Due to political and historical circumstances the Korean language in the Northern and Southern parts of the Korean peninsula exhibits differences which we refer to as North dialect (used in the DPRK) and South (used in the ROK). The paper analyzes borrowed words of Russian origin in Korean language (focusing on North Korean dialect) as sociolinguistic phenomenon. Also it highlights the methods of borrowing of Russian words and its adaptation to the recipient language. The author comes to conclusion that the foreign words of Russian origin underwent phonetic and semantic adaptation in the course of loaning. Borrowed words of Russian origin became a source of new word-formation elements and increased lexical richness of the Korean language in the DPRK.
