Objectives：The purpose of this study was to compare the characteristics of the cognitive functions between patients with depressive disorder and patients with bipolar disorder.
Methods：Participants were adults between the ages of 18 and 70, and included 93 outpatients diagnosed with depressive disorder and 42 outpatients diagnosed with bipolar disorder using the Korean-Wechsler Adult Intelligence Scale, Rey-Kim Memory Test, Kim’s Frontal-Executive Function Test. The scores of the depressive disorder group were compared to the scores of each scale of bipolar disorder using an independent sample T-test. Discriminant Analysis was performed to determine the number of lines for each score.
Results：First, the digit symbol and Stroop simple trial score of the depressed group was lower than that of the bipolar group. Second, the word fluency score of the depressed group was higher than that of the bipolar group.
Conclusion：The cognitive functions of depressed group and bipolar group were determined significantly by the digit symbol, Stroop simple trial score and word fluency test.
