The purpose of this study was to suggest the future directions to improve the quality of teachers in early childhood physical education(ECPE). Self-administration questionnaire was administered to 108 teachers in order to investigate the current status of the teachers of ECPE. Results revealed that there were a limit of ability for teachers to provide the high quality service in physical education to preschooler. The following problems were raised on the analysis. First, there were large differences in the quality of teacher in ECPE due to variation in their education background. Second, from the evaluation of teachers` quality in the areas of lesson plan, evaluation, and instruction ability, it was found that the knowledge of understanding for children`s growth and motor development, of evaluating motor skill development, and of individualized instructional skill should be emphasized in the Teacher Education Program. In addition, the issues of accredited education system, standardized education curriculum, and expanded opportunity for practical experience and in-service program were discussed in order to improve the quality of the teachers in ECPE.
