This study purposes to investigate effect of swimming participant`s achievement goal orientation on intrinsic motivation and physical self-efficacy of adults that participate in swimming program and examine empirically on what causality exists among variable. To achieve this goal, adults participating swimming program in Busan region in 2008 were chosen as the population and for sampling, the valid sample of 574 persons have been used for the analysis, using convenience sampling. Questionnaires for this study consisted of 45 questions: 2 for basic background feature, 3 for the degree of participation, 13 for achievement goal orientation, 15 for intrinsic motivation and 22 of physical self-efficacy. As a data analysis method for the examination of hypothesis, research exploratory factor analysis, and multiple regression analysis have been executed, using Window SPSS Ver. 14.0 program. The major results are as follow: First, it turned out that orientation of achievement goal orientation by swimming participant effected positively effort/enjoyment in intrinsic motivation, ego orientation effected positively competence in intrinsic motivation. Second, it turned out that task orientation and ego orientation of achievement goal orientation by swimming participant effected positively perceived physical ability factor in physical self-efficacy, task orientation effected positively physical self-expression confidence in physical self-efficacy. Third, it turned out that effort/enjoyment and competence in intrinsic motivation by swimming participant effected positively perceived physical ability but effected negatively tension factor, tension effected negatively perceived physical ability and physical self-expression confidence in physical self-efficacy.
