The purpose of this study was to compare health related fitness and isokinetic performance in woman tour pro-golfers of the 1st. and 2nd. grades, and subsequently, to provide information of proposed conditions for developing elite pro-golfers. Sixteen women volunteered for the study, and were assigned randomly into two groups; 1st. grade group (1st.G: n=9; 21.7±3.3 yrs, 162.1±4.7 cm, 60.6±6.7 kg, 23.1±3.0 kg·m2) and 2nd. grade group (2nd.G: n=7, 19.0±0.0 yrs, 165.3±6.4 cm, 61.7±10.5 kg, 22.4±2.4 kg·m2). Grip strength and 1RM for the strength, sit & reach and trunk backward extension for the flexibility, and shuttle run for cardiorespiratory endurance were measured. The isokinetic capability was evaluated using waist, shoulder, and knee performances. Variables were expressed in means and standard deviations, and group differences were compared using independent t-test. Probability of .05 were considered as statistically significant. Results were as follows: 1) Health related fitness; The 1st. grade group were superior than the 2nd. grade at right grip strength and 1RM Squat (p<.05), while the superiority was reversed in 1RM bench press (p<.05). 2) Isokinetic performance; Lower back extensor and flexor muscle power was significantly different between the groups (p<.05) only, while shoulder and knee`s muscle strength and power did not show any significant differences between the groups (p>.05). Consequently, it was difficult to determine a consistency between the 1st. and the 2nd. grade athletes in terms of physical fitness and isokinetic performances. This suggests these variables were not the determinants of differentiation between groups, after all, the levels of these parameters were almost same between groups. It can be proposed that criterion in differentiation of these athletes may not be depended on the levels of the physical fitness and isokinetic performance. Further studies are needed to find out factors such as psychological and(or) physiological parameters.
