This thesis intended to investigate how Hwang, Soonwon"s political consciousness is internalized and functions as critical aesthetics based on lyricism/romanticism, not to investigate which event is reflected in the author"s literature. Also, discussed Hwang, Soonwon"s lyricism and romanticism in the level of criticism, and suggests a question to the research practice in the meantime, which has researched as a romanticist. Hwang, Soonwon"s literature suggests a possibility of new critical aesthetics which intends to maintain independent distance from social reality through internalization of self in the human existence"s fundamental contradiction, conventional life and periodic situation.
Hwang, Soonwon"s lyricism and romanticism has the characteristic of critical aesthetics to pass over invincible world by creating a bypass of outer world"s oppression. That accepts and internalizes given reality, instead of directly resisting or taking critical attitude to tragic reality which colony and war brought about. This internalization process of history and reality show how human and world integrate and split, or what is necessary for integration and harmony. In this context, the viewpoint to see Hwang, Soonwon"s lyricism and romanticism as that of escapism is necessary to be reconsidered.
Particularly, in regard that anti-communism, which was a dominant ideology after war, rather operated as the elements of discussion to joint various ideologies, than an ideology which has a self-contained regime, Hwang, Soonwon could possibly concentrate expression of human life which was victimized by war, without actively assimilated by anti-communism ideology, since there was a tool as critical aesthetics, i.e. lyrical spirit.
