A narrative space is not just a given circumstance outside of the characters and the events, because the three narrative components-i.e., the characters, the events, and the setting-work together to shape the nature of a space in the narrative. While the actions of the characters or the events occur in a narrative location, they give some particular meaning to the place rendering it significant. This complex nature of narrative space, as more than a physical setting out there and as defined by characters and events, demands greater attention when interpreting a narrative. This paper explores the narrative construction of space in Luke-Acts, utilizing David Harvey`s matrix of space, in which he combines his notion of relational space with Henri Lefebvre`s analysis of the production of space. Harvey`s combination is useful to understand the complex nature of narrative space. In this paper, after summarizing the theories of Harvey and of Lefebvre, I will describe how their spatial perspectives can help understanding the narrative construction of space. Through a textual analysis, which is focused on the spatial construction of Jerusalem in Luke-Acts in general and in Acts 3:1-4:31 in particular, it will be shown that Luke constructs the Temple as the space of Jesus. This space is loaded with a yearning for an alternative world and is set in contrast to the city of Jerusalem as the dominant space.
