This study aims to describe the way of William D. Cunningham (1864-1936), the American missionary sent to Japan by Independent Church of Christ in 1901. He planted the Korean Independent Church of Christ in Japan and Korea from 1923 to early 1940s. This paper will focus mainly on the motive for Yotsuya Mission, which was managed by Cunningham, to get interested in the Korean people in Tokyo(plus Yokohama) and Korea, and the mission strategy and the mission work of this Mission as well. This study interprets and analyzes the parts related to the mission to Korean people in Japan and Korea selected from Tokyo Christian, the monthly newspaper published by Yotsuya Mission from 1901 to 1961. Following the Introduction chapter II describes the brief CV of Cunningham and the mission work of Yotsuya Mission, and chapter III explains the basic strategy of Yotsuya Mission. Then chapter IV shows the way for Cunningham through Yotsuya Mission to plant the Korean people residing in Japan. Finally chapter V reconstructs the way for the Korean evangelists sent by Yotsuya Mission to Korea to plant the churches of Independent Church of Christ in Korea. The study result shows how the Korean Independent Church of Christ in Japan and Korea had developed during 1920-30s. It also discloses the fact that the founder of the Independent Church of Christ in Korea, John Trawrick Chase(1905-1987), inherited the strategy of Yotsuya Mission in his mission work in Korea.
