This article is searching for a possible 21st-century mission theology in the African face: “discontinuous continuity” between African and Western Christianity for the future framework of Christian theology. The Aladura Church of African Independent Churches in West Africa has been investigated an example for case study format. When Western Christianity was delivered to Africa by Western missionaries, they understood Africans as an untermensch. Western missionaries made efforts to transplant what they wanted to keep in the Gospel. On the other hand, some Africans who were sensitive to their own cultural identity saw the Western Christianity in the different framework of understanding. They accommodated the foreign religion within their traditional cultural perspectives: we call it “discontinuity.” There have been a strong tension between Western continuity and African discontinuity in general African understanding of Christianity. At the first moment of meeting between the two, Western Christianity emphasized on continuity and resulted a kind of `MISSION`; African Christianity proclaimed discontinuity and laster presented a new kind of possibility: `African Independent Churches.` However, the authors argues that African Independent Churches, especially the Aladura Church of Nigeria and Ghana in West Africa, show some possible solution for this tension. It rather illustrates a new way of the future theological framework: “discontinuous continuity” between African and Western Christianity. The authors could find this kind of “discontinuous continuity” in Aladura Church`s theology, worship practices, and the case of divine names of God. The authors argues from the in-spot observation in Africa, this kind of “discontinuous continuity” is not just representing in Aladura Church of Nigeria but also appear as a new possible way the 21st-century mission theology, in Ghana.
