The mountain is a geographical foundation and basic environment in which the political, economic, social, cultural facts and knowledges as well as diverse imagination have developed and constructed. Therefore, we need to investigate the humanistic value and the geographical meanings of mountain in advance to understand Korean humanistic spirit and traditional culture. For realizing this topic, this article aims to analyse the humanistic value and geographical meanings of the mountain that is a prototype space and symbol to daily life, and that is the foundation of political, economic, social, and cultural formation in Korea through a case study on Kyeryong Mountain (鷄龍山). Especially, the geographical meanings as the space of magnanimity and coexistence are enshrined in Kyeryong Mountain which has the border as well transitional location and territory. Meanwhile, these border and transitional attributes are reflected in the ancient toponym of Kyeryong Mountain, such as ‘Kyesan (鷄山)’ which may mean ‘the eastern mountain (*saedal)’.
