There have been diverse researches on the emergence, establishment and development processes of stone pagodas in Shilla in the aspect of style analysis, but they have failed to review their locations or areas of construction and development processes in a specific manner. The Shilla stone pagodas based on the construction of stone slabs show a style flow from the five-story stone pagoda in Tapri-ri, Uiseong to the stone pagodas of sites of Gameunsa and Goseonsa Buddhist Temple. Those stone pagodas were built in the outskirts of Shilla’s Capital, which indicates that there were close connections between the route of cultural spread and the construction location of stone pagodas. Stone pagodas were usually built instead of wooden ones in Buddhist temples established after the unification of three kingdoms by Shilla. The locations of those stone pagodas were still in the outskirts of Gyeongju and later gradually spread to the local regions with Gyeongju as the base. It was especially confirmed that the construction of stone pagodas expanded along the defence systems and major traffic routes of Shilla’s Capital those days along with the construction of Buddhist temples, which means that they must have had a strong nature of protecting the country. The nationwide spread of stone pagodas since the late eighth century should be understood in the same context as the increasing number of stone pagodas built inside Shilla’s Capital of Gyeongju those days. That is, the fact that Shilla"s stone pagodas spread to the local regions along the major traffic routes of Shilla’s Capital outskirts suggests that there were close connections between the development process and construction areas of Shilla"s stone pagodas.
