It has become a trend that the rolling stocks increase the usage of LED (Light Emitting Diode) Lighting because interest in the environment-friendly and efficiency of the application of the LED. This paper focuses on applications and design method of LED lightings which illumination level can be adjusted with brightness by using external sensor and controller, which are using the constant current control and PWM (Pulse Width Modulation) technology. The interior illumination level of LED lightings can be actively adjusted in a range of passenger’s comfort with the dimming controller using the external brightness detected by the sensor. This active dimming control finally make passengers could feel comfortable while his (or her) journey as well as the railway vehicle could save electric energy for lightings. The emergency lighting control using this technology is also introduced and proposed how to increase the safety in an emergency situation.
