This study deal with the Field Training Commands (FTC) which was charged with training the Korean Divisions during the Korean War. Just after breaking out the Korean War, U.S. took the lead in the military operation. As Chinese People"s Liberation Army (PLA) intervened militarily in the Korean War in October 1950, U.S. had to change its war strategy from taking the victory to having negotiations.
Thus UN Forces tried to keeping the Line of Contact. For achieving this, the Korean Divisions were very important factors because they were charged with large parts of the Line of Contact. In August 1951, Van Fleet, the commander of EUSA (Eighth of United States Army) at that time, announced the establishment of the FTC. It offered special training programs for the Korean divisions. Almost Korean divisions were trained in the FTC, and then their performances and combat skills were highly improved.
Until now, there has rarely been the study on the FTC. For researching the FTC in depth, the FTC was chosen the theme of thesis, and methods of the Study were the literature review about historical materials. The results of the Study were summarized as below. First, FTC s training programs were considerably effective for the Korean divisions. Second, the Improving Korean divisions military performances was essential decision factors for the strengthening of Korean Army. Finally, this study has an important militarily significance for rethinking of the FTC.
