This study examines existing researches on the birth place and early life of Choi Chi-Won(崔致遠). The results of this study are as follows. First, the native place of the Choi(崔) clan of YugBu(六部) and Choi Chi-Won"s residential district after having returned to his homeland from Dang(唐) was Gyung-Ju(慶州) BonPiBu(本彼部). Second, Choi Chi-Won"s legal domicile(本籍地, his father"s hometown) was Gyung-Ju SaLyangBu(沙梁部). And I agree with some researchers" view that there is the probability that he was born and grew up, not in Gyung-Ju, but in another place. Third, the folklore that he was born and grew up in Ok-Gu(沃溝) has already been recognized universally in the late 17<SUP>th</SUP> century. Forth, it is reasonable to consider that YumYuiSeoWon(廉義書院), which gives a memorial ceremony for him, was constructed not in the 16<SUP>th</SUP> century but in the late 17<SUP>th</SUP> century. Finally, the records of MunChangHyun(文昌縣) on the geographical books containing the human geographical information of the Ok-Gu in the late 19<SUP>th</SUP> and early 20<SUP>th</SUP> century, were found to be discredited for there is no supporting evidence.
