On July 2014, Korea Agency for Infrastructure Technology Advancement (KAIA) made an agreement to promote rail components & materials industry. The agreements were established between Korea Agency for Infrastructure Technology Advancement(KAIA), Ministry of land infrastructure and transport(MoLT), Hyundai Rotem(HRC), Korea Rolling Stock Industries Association(KORSIA) and Korea Railway Association(KORASS). The core objective of the agreement was to consecutively support R&D, technology development, commercialization, and oversea expansion of the industry.
The world market of rolling stock parts for this year has increased to 200 trillion won. Yet, the domestic rail components & materials industry accounts for only 1 percent over the world market share. For this reason, this research was implemented to profoundly highlight the significances of the industry as well as to discuss problems. Domestic rail material & parts industry is currently facing difficult circumstances. In order to improve the competiveness of domestic materials & parts industry, coherent investment to the industry should be strategically promoted.
