Diverse constraints to travel participation and subsequent benefits from travel experience are known to be closely associated with tourists’ preferences as well as their actual travel behaviors. Based on this strong connection, tourism demand can be considered as a balanced function of those two concepts of constraints and benefits. This study examines how tourists’ realization of benefitscharacterizing travel satisfaction levels is associated with their perceptions of various types of travel constraints. Using the travel cost method (TCM), I assess how specific aspects of travel constraints affect the shape of tourists’ demand for travel participation. Study results suggest that tourists’ perceptions of constraints serve as important factors in determining the quantity of travel benefits. Study findings also indicate that the formation of tourism demand varies according to diverse types of constraints that current travel participants encounter.
