The purpose of this study is to figure out whether Korean learners acquired various meanings of the grammatical form ``-잖아(요)`` and then are using a precise intonation with respect to each meaning accordingly. Intonation not only reveals a speaker`s tone and attitude but is a crucial feature performing a specific function of a meaning in the course of communication as well. However, the Korean learners who fails in acquiring a precise intonation can`t realize it to express their intention appropriately as well as can`t grasp the other party`s intention, which blocks them from smooth communication. Therefore, it is necessary for Korean learners to be taught the communicative functions of Korean intonation, and it is essential to study them as a basic research to teach. The intonations performing a specific communicative function are realized mostly as a ``boundary tone`` of an IP(intonational phrase), especially in endings of spoken Korean such as ``-잖아요``, ``-거든요``, and ``-더라고요``. This study focuses on one of those endings of spoken Korean, ``-잖아``, which performs various functions of meaning in communication. To figure out the various functions of meaning in accordance with the intonational realization of ``-잖아``, this study analyzed the utterances of native Korean first. Based on the result, this study analyzed the functions of meanings and intonations of ``-잖아`` shown in Korean learners` utterances. The result revealed that neither the Korean learners could acquire the various functions of meaning of ``-잖아`` nor its intonational realization was same as that of native Korean`s. This result makes it clear that the Korean learners couldn`t acquire the various functions of meaning of ``-잖아`` according to its intonational realization, which means it is inevitable for them to be taught the various functions of meaning of ``-잖아`` according to its intonational realization.
