The purpose of this paper is to clarify the interrelation among syntactic structure, semantics structure and information structure of negative sentences in Korean. For this, firstly, we definitize the concept of ``scope of negation`` in the semantic and syntactic perspective to a syntactic unit which corresponds to a semantic proposition on the whole, on the contrary to the often assumed one that takes for granted that each constituent can be the scope of negation in a negative sentence. Secondly, we verify the boundary of the scope of negation against all the syntactic units in negative sentences, from the right categories of negative item ani(an) to the left ones of it. And then we conclude that the scope of negation in Korean negative sentences is within the limit of VP. Meanwhile we describe that V/VP-level adverbials can or cannot be inside of the negative scope, while sentential adverbials including modal adverbs, which are IP-related ones, and IP-level connectives should be outside of the negative scope. Lastly, we show the role of information structure in triggering focus/presupposition effect and disambiguating in the sentences which have scope ambiguity like quantified ones. Through these discussions, we can identify separated mechanisms which control syntactic-semantic structures and information structures. This finding offers us a useful cue to analyze multiple readings of negative sentences on the right track.
