This paper aims to make a survey of the syntax of noun focusing on several issues. We can imagine four stages of using a noun in building a sentence; 1) introducing a noun from lexicon to syntactic component, 2) constructing a noun phrase from a noun with several kinds of adnominals, 3) projecting a particle phrase from a particle with a noun phrase, 4) licensing the grammatical functions of a particle phrase in a sentence. 1) and 2) belong to inside syntax of noun, 3) and 4) to outside syntax of noun. Inside syntax of noun mainly deals with two issues; how much information a noun conveys when it enters syntactic component from lexicon, and how many kinds of adnominals a head noun can have in its own phrase. Outside syntax of noun primarily handles three issues; determining the genuine head of a phrase which combines a noun phrase and a particle, solving the violation of locality of subcategorization, and finding the number of functions a particle phrase has in a sentence. I will show crucial data and previous studies around these issues.
