This study analyzes the characteristics of the text discourse at the early stage of introduction of Christianity through text analysis of <삼셰대의(1885)>, one of the catholic verses from the early enlightenment period, the time when major influx of western culture started. <삼셰대의> consists of four parts-prologue-Old Testament-New Testament-epilogue-and three stories from the old testament, ``paradise lost-Noah`s ark-Moses` Ten Commandments`` and three stories from the New Testament, ``Birth of Jesus-public life-passion and resurrection`` are chronologically described as the body. <삼셰대의> has both characteristics as descriptive text and persuasive text as the objective of the text is to spread Christianity by describing major historical events from the Bible. Moreover, it is stylistic and rhetoric feature to describe the events in theatrical setting. First, the body of the text appears to have descriptive thematic development as the subordinate texts are linked by temporal expression. Second, the objective of the text is to persuade; it directly or rhetorically shows through sentence concluding. The permutation of declarative sentence, rhetorical interrogatives, and imperative sentences develops the persuasion system as the persuasive tension intensifies. Third, the discourse characteristics related to stylistic and rhetorical effects of texts is that it enhances delivering power as it narrates the events in madang-geuk setting where the discourse situation or discourse participants are all exposed.
