This study examined how intercultural marriage communication, couple’s perceptions of acculturation and gender role are related to female marriage immigrants’ marital satisfaction. Intercultural marital communication was investigated with husbands’ bi-lingual usage, wives’ bi-lingual communication climate and decision making. This study analyzed data from national study of multicultural family conducted in 2012. The sample was 10,252 marital couples consisted of female marriage immigrants and Korean husbands. The results show that husbands’ bi-lingual usage and wives’ bi-lingual communication climate are positively related to wives’ marital satisfaction. When wives have joint decision making with husbands they are satisfied with marriage. Wives are unsatisfied with marriage when they consider acculturation as assimilation. Husbands have more assimilated acculturation perception than wives and their perception difference is negatively related to marital satisfaction. Wives have more liberal gender role perception than husbands but their perception difference is not related to marital satisfaction. Some suggestions about future studies of intercultural marriage communication, Korean government’s multicultural policy and services are discussed.
