The purpose of this paper is to analyze diachronic changes of core negative elements ``aniha-`` and ``ani`` in Korean negation. Linguistic factors such as Head Preference Principle, Headedness Principle, Neg-Criterion, and internal contraction of the negative elements and subsequent grammaticalization trigger the diachronic changes of the negative predicate ``aniha-`` into ``an-(않-)`` and the negative adverb ``ani`` into ``an(안)``. The diachronic reanalysis of a syntactic structure from a simple clause predicate negation into an embedded clause negation was caused by a communicational strategy to reinforce the negative meaning of propositional expression. Literary style NPs borrowed from Chinese characters also gave an impetus to the reanalysis of a syntactic structure of negation in the process of category change from an NP into a verb stem via a nominal verb in order to satisfy morpho-syntactic conditions in Korean negation. It is inferred that the aspect of diachronic changes in Korean negation complies with the Negative Cycle Hypothesis of Jespersen(1917), which has explained the aspect of diachronic changes in English and French negation although there appear discrepancies with the change of the times one another.
