The guidelines for the environment will be required which can provide support to demands and additional disability of the elderly and the disabled, so that they could lead sustained independent life at the current living environment. Domestic and international laws and regulations on design of residential environment are adopted, revised or supplemented to solve the problems such as access, safety, and privacy, in the residential space of the aged and the disabled. This study is an comparative analysis of domestic and overseas laws and regulations on design environment. The purpose of this study is to present the basic materials required for development of the guidelines that would correct domestic problems and support the undiscriminatory physical environment for the socially weak who are experiencing aging and disability, due to the restricted scope of entrance, bathroom and kitchen spaces with high frequency of accident. Firstly, design guidelines on residential environment were compared in five aspects of comfort, access, privacy, usability and safety. Secondly, the guidelines applied to the entrance, bathroom and kitchen space were compared. Thirdly, based on the analysis result, the direction for development of the guidelines for domestic residential environment.
