This study investigated the use of the Chinese Intangible Cultural Heritage ‘batik craft’ in living space. The study results found the followings: First, batik craft is utilized in art design as a way of creating residential spaces, and batik is protected and spread gradually. Meantime, it has developed in an innovative fashion. Second, in terms of living space, traditional ornament craft is used as a new design element in dweller’s style-based contemporary design. For case analysis, four relatively good cases published in a journal were chosen among great living space designs in China for the past 4 years since 2012. Each case was analyzed in an extended manner including application pattern, application principle, color combination and spatial presentation. Based on the said case analysis and surveys, this study investigated how Miao’s batik craft was utilized in four different residential spaces and various items such as curtain, carpet, cushion, blind, couch, tablecloth, mat, tapestry and lamp shade. Then, its application methods and principles were derived. This study has found that batik craft can satisfy the functional and ornamental aspects of living space. A study on the applicability of batik craft in living space should promote the conservation, spread, development and innovation of batik and make spatial presentation richer and more diverse. From a macroscopic perspective, more people get to know batik craft, and it would be used in living space more frequently. As a result, it could be utilized in more diverse fields.
