The aim of the present study was to clarify the relationship among viewing motivation, viewing experience (parasocial interaction and social presence), and satisfaction of eating and cooking broadcasts viewers. Specifically, the study examined (1) the motivations of the viewers of eating and cooking broadcasts, (2) whether, as often stated in recent discussions, the emotional hunger or loneliness is associated with the latest fad of eating and cooking broadcasts; and (3) how the viewing motivation impacts the satisfaction. A survey was conducted of 669 viewers of eating and cooking broadcasts. The results showed that there were four motivational factors of vicarious gratification, entertainment, information seeking, and habitual time-spending; single person households and/or lone diners had no significant differences in viewing motivation and level of satisfaction with their counterpart; and the effects of the motivations of vicarious gratification, entertainment, and information seeking on satisfaction were mediated by presence and parasocial interaction.
