Traditionally, players in sports fields are selected through intuition by individual or groups such as coaches or selecting committees. The procedures of selecting has often occurred dispute in aspect of validity even though they have used objective data. The purpose of this study was to rank in relative importance on performance assessment based on handball players’ positions using Delphi and AHP method. Coaches, commentators, referees were selected for Delphi method as experts. After that, the same cluster of occupation were selected for AHP method. As a result of this study, First, positions of handball game are goal keeper, center back, pivot, both backs, and both wings. Second, significant positions for winning in handball game are in the order of goal keeper, center back, pivot, both backs, and both wings. Third, significant factors for evaluating athletic performance of goal keeper position are in the order of total saved efficiency, and assist. In case of center back position are in the order of assist, break through shoot score, total scored efficiency, 9M shoot score, 6M shoot score, and error. In case of pivot position, factors are in the order of 6M shoot score, total scored efficiency, break through shoot score, fast break score, and error. In case of both backs positions, factors are in the order of 9M shoot score, break through shoot score, total scored efficiency, assist, 6M shoot score, and error. In case of both wings positions, factors are in the order of wing shoot score, fast break score, 6M shoot score, total scored efficiency, break through shoot score, and error. Determinant factors and the importance through the study can be utilized as an objective indicator in handball field. In addition, this data will be used for systematically evaluating each player and team’s athletic performance and developing that.
