As the move of central ministries of the government to Multifunctional Administrative City, various aspects of urban problems such as un-controled development, shortage of infrastructure, deterioration of landscape are occurring in neighboring area. The purpose of this study is to propose environmental improvement master plan of‘Geumnam-myeon urban area(Yongpo-ri)’, the adjacent region of Multifunctional Administrative City utilizing the local characteristics and conditions such as location, accessibility, regional resources etc. Traffic jams, lack of parking space, deterioration of the pedestrian environment, un-controled development pattern, streetscape damage, and lack of inter-community residents have been drawn as the main issue of Geumnam-myeon urban area. Based on field survey, resident questionary, and social gathering, I propose a development vision and three development objectives including Enhancement of village landscape, Community activation of residents, and Optimization of community facilities in conjunction with each of the detailed plan. The results of this study are expected to be utilized as a useful references when establishing strategy for activate the new town suburb area.
