This study examined overall policing attitudes and their relationship with job satisfaction among Korean police officers.
Statistical analysis was implemented with 403 questionnaires out of 500. The results are as follow.
1) Various activities police officers are doing can be grouped into four roles based on their preference for them ; crime control, social order, service, and partnership role.
2) Police officers showed rather positive attitudes toward the four roles, 4.08, 3.50, 3.85, 4.02 respectively.
3) The attitudes varied with demographic and working environments, but at the same time they looked very similar by and large.
4) Some policing roles were found to be related with the job satisfaction positively. And a balanced attitude - which was measured through the inverse of the standard deviation of the four roles in questionnaire reponses - was also found to be positively related with officers' job satisfaction.
According to this analysis, some implications and measures for the successful implementation of balanced policing roles are suggested.
