Today, more and more services have been developed to alleviate the pain and suffering caused by the victimization experience. And the role of the modern police is being extended to the victim protection and support. Because the police is the first contact agency in victim protection and support, they should provide well- established initial response procedure. In addition, police activities for the protection and support of victims may ultimately affect the trust of police. According to this perception, police-based victim support programs were developed to provide certain types of assistance to victims. In spite of the fact that the police-based victim support programs have been increased, there were very few studies about program evaluation in Korea. Most of prior studies have focused on causes and effects of victimization, not the evaluation of victim programsTherefore, the purpose of this study is to identify evaluation of victim support programs that involved process evaluation. Process evaluations try to answer questions about a program’s efforts, operations, and types and amounts of services offered without making direct comparisons about program impacts. For it, questionnaire survey and interviews were conducted for police practitioners who work in police-based victim support programs from 6 cities. The most notable results in this study were that facilities, personnel conditions, training programs, and post-management of victim support programs were evaluated negatively. And this study also found that facilities, personnel conditions, training programs were the best predictors of the goal recognition and acceptance level. However, in discussing the findings of the present study it is also important to note the limitations of this research. To make the results as broadly applicable as possible, it is important to include wide-ranging and representative samples of police-based victim support programs. Notwithstanding these limitations, this study is deemed to be meaningful in the light that it attempted the evaluation of the police based victim support programs.
