The purpose of this study was to investigate the muscle strength of both lower extremities and the general gait parameters in 72 elderly women, and analyze the vertical force loading of both lower extremities, which can assess the dynamic stability during step-down walking. Biodex Gaitrite and MTD were used as measurement tools. The results indicated that the muscle strength of elderly people was stronger in right lower extremity. During walking, the right leg used longer double support time than the left leg, while the left leg had higher values of the step/extremity ratio, which is defined as the step length divided by the leg length of the same leg. During descent-stair walking in elderly people, the values of breaking force and propulsion force were higher in right leg than left leg, indicating that the dynamic stability of left leg was weaker. In addition, it was found that dynamic stability was more affected by the difference in vertical loading by muscle strength than the difference in vertical loading by step-down movement of both legs.
