The purpose of this study was to investigate exercise program to improve metabolic syndrome risk factors in obese male collegiate students of the residential environment. The exercise program was to identify that changes in body composition, physical fitness, cardiovascular disease risk factors and improve respiratory function. The subjects were 36 male collegiate students(exercise group: n=20, BMI 28.80±3.03 kg/m2; control group: n=16, BMI 27.86±2.08 kg/m2) and all participants were lived in residential environment. The subjects were tested to measure body composition, physical fitness, blood variables, and GXT variables, prior to and after 8 weeks. All data were analyzed by repeated measure two-way ANOVA using SPSS/PC 18.0. Statistical level was a=.05. The results were follows; the variables of physical characteristics were significant differences in body weight, BMI, waist circumference and fat% of training. Physical fitness variables were significant differences in back strength, sit-up, push-up, and sit and reach, grip strength of training. Blood variables and Metabolic syndrome variables were significant differences in waist circumference, FBS, and GGT of training. Graded exercise test variables were significant differences in VO2max, exercise time of training effect and HRrest, HRmax, SBPrest, DBPrest of training interaction. This study suggested that individual exercise program have a positive influence on improving metabolic syndrome and fitness level in obese male collegiate students of residential environment. Furthermore one can say that lifestyle modification included exercise and diet education is an important consideration for someone who has the metabolic syndrome.
