To analyze ‘the network characteristics of indie music communities for new and useful collective creation of music’, the structural characteristics of networks and the attributes of agents constituting the networks are examined, and how the emotion accumulated via the networks is perceived, managed and finally used by individual community members or the whole community in parallel with the process of music creation is considered in relation to social and individual creation activities within the communities. To empirically analyze study questions, followed by direct observation, network analysis, emotion analysis and in-depth interview as per the case study method. The analysis result showed that the communities have in common a strong tie with concentrated relations, where collective exchanges and interactions related to music creation are observed. Primary creators serving as hubs in such concentrated communities include ‘administrators and staff’, ‘intermediate creators developing into experts)’, ‘novice creators participating with willingness to learn’, and ‘companies dealing in equipment related to music creation’. And based on each community network aforesaid, creators form on-/off-line social relationships, and share knowledge, experience and emotion (emotional postings on message boards, joint works or small group activities). That is, as the capacity to perceive, read and use others’ emotion, each music creator mobilizes the emotional intelligence, which enables dynamic perception and control of emotion at both personal and social levels. Moreover communities try to maintain and develop themselves by establishing autonomous, strict and specific norms to deal with diverse conflicts that may occur including emotional conflicts.
