This essay studies the causative “让、叫” causatives and the corresponding Korean form through Corpus Linguisticscomparison. The selected samples are language resources from Chinese modern fictions, including ｢许三观卖血记｣, ｢兄弟｣, ｢在细雨中呼喊｣, ｢第七天｣, ｢活着｣, ｢蛙｣, ｢红高粱家族｣, ｢四十一炮｣, ｢生死疲劳｣ All these novels have been published in Korea under the names of ｢허삼관 매혈기｣, ｢형제｣, ｢가랑비 속의 외침｣, ｢제7일｣, ｢인생｣, ｢개구리｣, ｢붉은 수수밭｣, ｢사십 일포｣, ｢인생을 고달파｣, By comparing the Korean translation of “让、叫” with its original using situation, we conclude its usage in modern Chinese.
Through corpus statistics, we identify that the “让、叫” causatives of the Chinese form “S+(让、叫)+NP+VP/AP” corresponds to the following four kinds of Korean sentences, i.e., (1) causative complex sentence, (2)casual complex sentence, (3) passive complex sentence and (4) simple subjective sentence.
We investigate the animacy of S in the Chinese “使” causatives and the Korean correspondence. It is found that S in the sentence “S+使+NP1+VP/AP” is mostly inanimate. In the Korean correspondence, it is the most natural form that S is followed by a sentence.
Finally, we explore the animacy relationship between nouns and the controlled predicates. It is found that: animate “VP/AP” is combined with animate NP; inanimate “VP/AP” is often combined with inanimate NP; universal “VP/AP” is combined with both animate and inanimate NP. Although Chinese and Korean may have different structures, both languages comply with the life controlling rule.
