This study attempts to compare, from a broad perspective, Korea"s five-year old green growth movement and "green urbanism" in European cities. When compared with other area of policies, such as economy and foreign affairs, the green growth movement of Lee Myung-bak administration, once a national mantra since 2008, has experienced much less criticism-with a significant exception of Four River Restoration Project. Green urbanism in Europe appears to have shown somewhat different paths and focuses. Despite little consensus on what the concept actually is or how different it is from other similar notions like sustainable development, one can argue that a number of green urbanism campaigns and policies have sprung up and prevailed for the past 20 years or so in European soil. While there are no other local or urban policy trends - including Korea"s green growth drive. When examining similarities and differences between the two, the focus shall be on the general governance and policy process, rather that the substantive matters of each trend of thought.
