An author of Beimengsuoyan, Sun Guangxian was born towards the fall of Tang Dynasty and went through the period Five Dynasties and Ten Kingdoms and died watching the founding of Song Dynasty. About 400 various stories of Beimengsuoyan include reports about a chaotic situation of fragmentation and collapse of many countries, the private life of officials and that of commoners offering a glimpse at everyday life and custom of those period.
And compiling and recording historic facts in the traditional Chinese society was considered the way to provide moral criteria and to build justification for dominant hierarchy. Thus, it can be inferred that Sun Guangxian had a purpose to offer a political vision to the dominant class and morality to posterity writing his reports. From this point of view, in this paper, I"ll examine what Sun Guangxian suggested to political groups as the guidance of reign through Beimengsuoyan. Comparing two kings of Five Dynasties he showed an ideal model of monarch and with tales of liegemen he told that how they should be in saying and deeds and what virtue is required of proper officials.
