Since the year 2013, Smishing hacking attacks through smartphones are increasing, and financial damages are increasing rapidly. Smishing implements applications including malicious codes, regardless of the user"s intentions, through connection links from the SMS of smartphones. These smartphone applications including malicious codes extorts personal information, and provokes financial losses by interfacing with financial incidents such as online payments. In this paper, the authors analyze cases of smishing incidents, and analyzes smishing hacking attacks and attack processes. We also present some passive security measures that may be performed by the user, and some active security measures that may be performed by mobile carriers and the government. The results of this study may aid in preventing financial losses of users due to hacking attacks using smishing, and in leading the society to a more safer place by using smartphones with security measures applied.
