This article examines Thomas Hardy’s Tess of the d’Urbervilles in terms of Deleuze and Guattari’s becoming-woman and nomadic space. Tess becomes a molecular woman forming a line of flight from the solid identity as a fallen woman. Specially, this article focuses on the process of Tess’s becoming-woman in her love with Angel which is at the core of the work. Angel’s love enables her to release new powers in her capacities, moving out of the solid identity of a fallen woman. Furthermore, her love toward Angel makes it possible for her to become a molecular woman full of delight in a new dimension of time and space. This creative metamorphoses also means the involution into becoming-girl which Deleuze and Guattari take a typical example of becoming-woman. Here becoming-woman evolves into creating the smooth space, that is the nomadic space. Tess becomes a war machine completely destroys the striate space of human law, and creates the nomadic space in the reunion with Angel where she feels peace and love. Further, her death can be recapituated as the formation of a line of flight deterritorialising the earth itself.
