The purpose of this study is to examine distributions by level of adolescents" smartphone addiction and the buffering effect of self-esteem, family support, parents-adolescent communication over negative influence of smartphone addiction on mental health. Data was collected from Daegu, in South Korea where 826 adolescents were proportional stratified sampling considering sex and school grade. This study used the interactive analysis in structural equation model. The findings are as following. First, 5.6% of respondents were high risk user group, 17.1% of them were potential risk user group, 77.4% of them were common smartphone user group. Second, self-esteem, family support, mother-adolescent communication had a significant buffering effect moderating negative influence on mental health of adolescents" smartphone addiction.
