Unlike the fact that the linguistics circle and pedagogy circle resisted the epoch-making event of introducing corpus into English dictionary compilation, the introduction of corpus into Korean dictionary compilation history was accepted as an advancement in dictionary compilation methodology. 〈Yonsei Korean Dictionary〉, which is the first corpus-utilizing Korean dictionary, was begun to be compiled with a goal to be a Korean dictionary as a language dictionary that helps right Korean language life based on actual language data, and furthermore make a Korean dictionary that can be used by foreigners who study Korean language.
Yonsei University"s Korean dictionary compilation laboratory has built Yonsei corpus which was expressed as ‘writing by Korean people in Korean language’ in dictionary compilation proposal, and analyzed it quantitatively and qualitatively for the use in dictionary compilation. We selected head-words based on the frequency research of corpus, and analyzed examples of corpus describing grammarinformation of each word. In macro structure context, we extracted vocabulary with frequency over 14 times from 43 million words of corpus and adopted them as the 1st headword candidate list. We richened the microstructure by using corpus and suggested example of actual use aspect, and the most distinct characteristic was the suggestion of case frame and argument. Since 〈Yonsei Korean Dictionary〉, it becomes natural to adopt corpus upon compiling Korean dictionary. Various kinds of dictionary have been published which can be sorted by how actively the corpus was used and to which stage the concordance is applied for the corpus used.
