The aim of this study is to know the evolution and current situation of the sexual and reproductive behavior of adolescents in Mexico. To achieve this, a variety of demographic and health databases carried out in Mexico from 1987 to 2012 were analyzed, estimating indicators such onset of sexual intercourse age, knowledge and use of contraceptives, fertility, pregnancy and Sexually Transmitted Infections (STI) for women among 15 to 19 years. The data analysis among different generations was descriptive and comparative. The main results show that the age of sexual onset has been slightly postponed according to time. Concerning to contraception, in the last 25 years the knowledge of contraceptive technology was increased reaching almost 100 percent; however, the use of them in the first intercourse is still reduced, because only 4 out of 10 women use some method. Regarding to fertility indicators, it is shown that they are more evident in past times, but that does not mean that they increase, but its visibility is due to the effect called demographic bonus; even so, it draws attention that the percentage of children born in people under 20 years old passed from 10 to 16 percent in 30 years. The Sexually Transmitted Infections indicators show a rebound in most of them, especially with the human papillomavirus (HPV) and the Human immunodeficiency virus (HIV). It is concluded that Mexico is faced with an urgent need of rethinking its adolescent sexual and reproductive health policy, particularly because these situations are greatly highlighted in the most vulnerable contexts and where education and health services access is lower.
