Across languages, adposition like words such as prepositions or postpositions are well attested. Unlike well studied languages such as English, however, it is not always straightforward to determine whether an adposition like word in question belongs to a category P. This paper addresses this issue by examining a certain set of words in Blackfoot, an Algonquian language, that have adpositional meaning. In order to identify a category of those words in the language, this paper relies on relevant criteria proposed for identifying a category P in Svenonius (2007). Applying these criteria, this paper demonstrates that adposition like words in Blackfoot belong to category P, unlike the previous studies on the language which have merely assumed that those words are Ps. The consequence of this paper is consistent with the view that a P is a separate category from N or V (e.g., Baker, 2003), even in polysynthetic languages such as Blackfoot where a task of identifying words is less straightforward than English.
