Universities select their new incoming students through various methods of screening process. The incoming students whose education had been based on the Seventh National Curriculum have been found to show great differences in their basic knowledge of mathematics and learning ability. Providing appropriate instruction to students with such great differences in their mathematical background can be challenge for instructors. Some students may find the learning experience too easy; others may find it too difficult. One way to overcome this dilemma is to group students into different classrooms based on their background and provide instruction at different levels. Such level-based instruction allows instructors to consider their students' individual learning ability and provide individually-tailored instruction accordingly. Moreover, it has recently been adopted be many universities in Korea, having been found to be quite effective for helping students achieve success in their learning. This study (a) describes how level-based instruction for the course "University Mathematics" was delivered to the cadets of the Humanity and Social Science field at the Republic of Korea Air Force Academy during the first and second semesters of the 2010 academic year, (b) reports on the academic achievement results of this course, and (c) provides implications for improving level-based instruction
